Clean Environment, Clean Future: How Can Professional Cleaning Be Sustainable?

Sustainability is a key issue in professional cleaning as well: the chemicals, tools, and processes used to clean the spaces where people live and work all have an impact.

Cleaning is not only a matter of hygiene, but also an environmental and occupational health consideration. The technologies applied, the cleaning agents used, and the way work is carried out influence resource consumption, waste generation, indoor air quality, and human health. Through sustainable cleaning practices, organisations can reduce environmental impact while also supporting employee health and well-being.

Green cleaning today goes far beyond simply reducing chemical use. Certified environmentally responsible cleaning agents, energy-efficient machinery, smart dosing systems, and ongoing employee training can all contribute to operations aligned with ESG principles. Increasingly, clients value—and in many cases expect—service providers to ensure not only cleanliness but also a transparent, measurable sustainability approach.

LIWO Group aims to be a leader in the green transition. In addition to introducing its own HYGON eco-friendly paper product line, the company is expanding its range of environmentally conscious technologies and placing greater emphasis on suppliers committed to sustainable cleaning products and equipment. Client feedback indicates that green cleaning products can match the effectiveness of traditional chemicals while offering additional benefits, including improved skin compatibility and a more pleasant fragrance. Concentrated formulations may reduce the quantity required, supporting lower storage needs and more efficient logistics—alongside the advantages of recyclable or biodegradable packaging where available.

Technology and product choices are most effective when combined with capability-building. Employee training and consistent internal and external reinforcement of ESG principles help ensure that sustainable cleaning becomes a shared standard across sites and teams.

People-Centred ESG in Practice: Understanding From Experience, Empathy From Understanding

LIWO Group’s “One Day on Site” programme shows how empathy, understanding, and respect can be strengthened between frontline and office-based teams. Linked to the social pillar of ESG, the initiative serves as an organisational development tool that supports culture, builds long-term relationships, and brings corporate values to life through real experience.

One of the leading facility management companies in the Central European region, LIWO Group is committed to making operations not only efficient and innovative, but also people-centred. The “One Day on Site” programme was created to bring central teams closer to day-to-day service delivery by offering first-hand experience of frontline work.

As part of the initiative, colleagues from central functions—including HR, finance, and technical coordination—spent a full working day on site. Across locations such as hospitals, office buildings, and industrial facilities, participants joined operational teams and performed tasks related to cleaning, maintenance, and other frontline roles.

The programme supports workplace culture by reducing organisational distance and strengthening cooperation between functions through shared experience. Participant feedback highlights both professional and personal impact: the day offered a clearer understanding of the responsibility, workload, and practical challenges of frontline work, while reinforcing mutual respect across teams.
