Leading European facility management group sets out plans to integrate sustainability standards across its nine markets

LIWO Group, a leading facility management service provider in Central and Eastern Europe, has published its voluntary Sustainability Report. The publication sets out a Group-wide sustainability strategy focused on employee safety and development, responsible use of resources, energy efficiency and stronger ESG governance.

With nearly 30,000 employees across nine European countries and 22,000 locations, workplace safety and employee development are central to the Company's ESG approach. The report also highlights the opportunity to achieve greater consistency in sustainability practices and climate target-setting across LIWO’s diverse markets. Building on initiatives already in place within several subsidiaries, the Group intends to establish a more consistent and measurable ESG framework, including harmonised climate ambitions across its international operations.

Ferenc Kis-Szölgyémi, CEO of LIWO Group, said:

“Publishing our first LIWO Group Sustainability Report is a voluntary step, but one we believe is increasingly essential. The report, together with the assessment underpinning it, gives us a clearer understanding of where we stand today and where we want to go next to meet our own and our partners’ expectations. For a Group of our scale, we have both a responsibility and an opportunity to raise the bar across European markets. We want to strengthen ESG performance across our own operations and contribute to setting a new standard for transparency, accountability and sustainable practice in the facility management sector."

The ESG strategy is informed by a Double Materiality Assessment, alongside analysis of operational data, regulatory requirements and existing sustainability practices across the Group’s subsidiaries. This assessment identified the areas where LIWO can deliver the greatest environmental and social impact while improving operational efficiency and managing business risks.

Key commitments set out in the reportinclude:

•  Responsible use of materials and waste-management

The Double Materiality Assessment identified cleaning agents, materials, packaging and waste as key environmental priorities. The Group plans to expand circular material use, reduce hazardous substances and increase the availability of alternative, greener and refillable solutions.

•  Commitment to employee safety and development

LIWO Group aims to expand role-specific safety and development training, reaching 50% workforce coverage in 2026 and 90% in 2027. It also plans to introduce structured onboarding and role-based learning by 2027, alongside measurable workplace safety targets and Group-wide implementation of ISO 45001, occupational health and safety management systems by 2030.

•  Innovative solutions in facility management

Innovative solutions are at the heart of LIWO and is reflected by implementing innovative technologies and digital solutions into its daily operation and facility management services. These efforts include the use of computer-aided facility management (CAFM) systems and IoT technologies, as well as the application of automated and robotic cleaning solutions . LIWO is continuously developing its green cleaning technology solutions to help clients reduce energy, water, chemical use and waste.

•  Energy efficiency and decarbonisation

By 2027, the Group plans to publish 2030 and 2040 carbon-reduction targets, prepare a Climate Transition Plan and strengthen the measurement and reduction of energy use and emissions across its own operations and client sites.

Building a Group-wide sustainability framework

The publication of LIWO Group’s first Sustainability Report marks the start of a more structured, Group-wide approach to sustainability. LIWO plans to publish a sustainability report annually, supported by yearly ESG Action Plans to strengthen Group-level governance, measurement and accountability. It will continue to build on the findings of its annually finetuned Double Materiality Assessment as it develops and tracks environmental, social and governance targets across its international operations. Through these efforts, the Group aims to establish an operating model in which economic efficiency, environmental responsibility and social value creation are mutually reinforcing.
